MIIT Minister Li Lecheng Visits Ethiopia and South Africa

China and Ethiopia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in information and communications technology. In Addis Ababa, Minister Li attended and addressed a seminar on China-Africa digital and emerging-industry cooperation, joined by ministers from several African countries and senior representatives of international organizations. Participants praised China's achievements and its support for Africa in bridging the digital divide.

MIIT Hosts the China-Africa Digital Cooperation Forum in Beijing

MIIT leadership attended and addressed the opening ceremony, alongside digital ministers and ambassadors to China from more than 40 African countries. MIIT noted that China and Africa are partners in solidarity and mutual benefit, with enormous potential and broad prospects for digital cooperation. China will continue to uphold the principles of consultation, joint contribution, and shared benefits, work actively with African countries in the digital field, and support the development of Digital Africa. The two sides should jointly plan digital cooperation, build digital infrastructure, and share the dividends of the digital economy. China and African countries also released the China-Africa Digital Cooperation Development Action Plan at the forum.

FOCAC Summit

The FOCAC Beijing Summit Is Successfully Held

President Xi Jinping proposed jointly building a China-Africa digital technology cooperation center and developing 20 digital demonstration projects. During the summit, MIIT signed cooperation documents on the digital economy and information and communications technology with Senegal, Rwanda, and the Republic of the Congo.

The First China-South Africa Digital Ministerial Dialogue Is Held in Beijing

MIIT Minister Li Lecheng and South African Minister Solly Malatsi co-chaired the dialogue. The two sides agreed to strengthen policy exchanges and practical cooperation in digital infrastructure, digital innovation, and integrated applications, while maintaining close communication in multilateral frameworks and jointly seizing opportunities from the new industrial revolution.

2024 FOCAC Beijing Summit

5 September 2024

The FOCAC Summit was held in Beijing on 5 September 2024. President Xi Jinping delivered the keynote speech Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a Community with a Shared Future and announced ten partnership actions for modernization. He proposed jointly building the China-Africa Digital Technology Cooperation Center, developing 20 digital demonstration projects, and embracing a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation. The Beijing Action Plan (2025-2027) identified the digital economy as a strategic opportunity, welcomed the China-Africa Digital Cooperation Forum and Digital Capacity Building Cooperation Forum, and called for implementation of the China-Africa Digital Cooperation Development Action Plan across digital policy, infrastructure, innovation, transformation, security, and capacity building.
