Fifth FOCAC Ministerial Conference

In July 2012, the Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) was held in Beijing, the capital of China.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, six African presidents, two prime ministers, the presidential envoy of Egypt as the forum's African co-chair, and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attended the opening ceremony. President Hu delivered an important speech titled Open Up New Prospects for a New Type of China-Africa Strategic Partnership.

Conference outcomes
The conference reviewed China's report on implementation of the fourth ministerial conference follow-up actions and adopted the Beijing Declaration of the Fifth FOCAC Ministerial Conference and its Beijing Action Plan (2013–2015), comprehensively setting the direction and priority areas for China-Africa relations over the following three years.
Key initiatives
President Hu Jintao announced new measures for the following three years to support Africa's peaceful development and strengthen China-Africa cooperation in five areas: investment and financing, assistance, African integration, people-to-people exchange, and peace and security.
