Zero Tariffs Help More African Products Reach Chinese Consumers

After China implemented zero-tariff treatment for all 53 African countries with diplomatic ties, products including apples, coffee and avocados gained new support for faster access to the Chinese market.

In the first month of zero-tariff treatment covering all product categories, shipments including fresh South African apples moved through Chinese ports under streamlined procedures. The broader coverage allows more African economies and products to benefit from market opening.

African wine, frozen fruit, coffee and fresh avocados illustrate the expanding range of trade. Customs agencies are also improving inspection, quarantine and clearance services while maintaining food-safety controls.

Lower border costs can help African producers scale exports, develop brands and build more stable access to Chinese consumers. Continued progress will also depend on cold chains, standards certification, logistics and market development.
