Seventy Years of China-Africa Health Cooperation Build Local Capacity
Chinese medical teams, disease-control programs and professional training have expanded from clinical service toward stronger public-health systems and local workforce development.
Marking 70 years since China and African countries began diplomatic relations, two Chinese ambassadors reviewed a health partnership dating to the first medical team sent to Africa in 1963.
Cooperation now includes Ebola and COVID-19 response, the Africa CDC headquarters and training for local health workers. Its long-term value lies in combining equipment, services and skills so African systems can respond to disease more independently.
