From Data Centers to Digital Skills: China Supports Africa's Digital Transition
China-Africa digital cooperation now spans communications networks, national data centers, digital government, e-commerce and vocational education, combining infrastructure with skills to narrow the digital divide.
Digital transformation is an important objective of the African Union's Agenda 2063. China-Africa projects have expanded from backbone and wireless networks to national data centers and digital-government systems that support public services and industry.
Cooperation also includes e-commerce and vocational education. Luban Workshops, ICT competitions and training for young entrepreneurs give learners practical experience in networking, cloud computing and online business.
The projects show that closing the digital divide requires networks, platforms and talent systems to develop together. Future work will also need to address local operations, data security, affordable access and skills standards so that digital investment creates durable value.
