Chinese Embassy in South Africa Holds Video Conference on Compliance and Safety

On June 10, the Chinese Embassy in South Africa held a video conference on compliance, safety and preventing risks arising from protests. Ambassador Wu Peng attended and delivered remarks. Minister Zhou Maoyi, Counsellor and Consul General Liao Xiaoying, Consul General Pan Qingjiang in Johannesburg, Consul General Ren Faqiang in Cape Town, and Acting Consul General Miao Miao in Durban also participated. The event was attended by more than 300 representatives from major Chinese associations, Chinese-funded enterprises and institutions, as well as Chinese students and scholars in South Africa.

Ambassador Wu noted that recent protests targeting foreign nationals have occurred in several parts of South Africa. The Embassy and Consulates-General are closely monitoring the situation, and are making every effort to protect the safety and lawful rights and interests of Chinese citizens and institutions in South Africa. Ambassador Wu urged everyone to pay close attention to developments on the ground, heed risk alerts, strengthen safety precautions in all respects, and strictly comply with laws and regulations, particularly in employment and labour matters. Ambassador Wu stressed that necessary emergency response and risk prevention measures should be taken to ensure personal safety and property security.

Participants pledged to follow the requirements issued by the Embassy and Consulates-General, work to prevent risks, ensure lawful and compliant operations, and enhance security awareness.
