Ambassador Wu Peng Meets with Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia

On June 15, Ambassador Wu Peng met with Professor Firoz Cachalia, Acting Minister of Police of South Africa at the Chinese Embassy, with Minister Zhou Maoyi in attendance.

Ambassador Wu stated that the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General are highly concerned about the recent protests and demonstrations targeting foreign nationals in various parts of South Africa, and attach great importance to the affected Chinese-owned shops and the safety and security of the Chinese nationals and business in South Africa. Last week, the Embassy convened a virtual conference on compliance and safety, which was attended by major Chinese community organizations, representatives of Chinese enterprises and institutions, as well as Chinese students and scholars across South Africa.

Ambassador Wu expressed the hope that the South Africa side could share relevant information with the Embassy timely, make quick response when violent incidents occur in areas with many Chinese nationals and businesses, and continue to safeguard the safety, security and legitimate rights and interests of Chinese nationals, projects, and institutions in South Africa.
